MT #13: Enlightened Dinosaurs

Yeah, I used to know Chopra back in the day. That’s why I’m able to present such a realistic caricature of him for this comic. Yeah man, those were the days. We used to barbecue together, eat corns on the cob. Chopra would be pouring the coals on the grill and I would say, “Look at those coals, Deepak..” and he would nod silently and look gently at the coals. Even when he set the coals on fire he would do it compassionately, and say a prayer for each coal. It was beautiful.

You know, I don’t tell a lot of people this, but Deepak and I actually got enlightened at the same time. Yeah. It’s true. We were just taking a walk, and then…it just..HAPPENED. “Ah. Of course. I knew it all along. It was right in front of my face the whole time,” Deepak said. “Yah,” I said. “Damn straight, mi brah.” We gave each other a meaningful look, and parted.

Five months later he became an international spiritual celebrity. And me, well, I’m still a bitter Buddhist without a single follower. But alas, it will all work out in the Wheel of Karma.
